I've been on a LiveCD kick lately, and today I checked out a distro to test-drive the XGL OpenGL-based Linux windowing system. XGL is a modified version of X that uses OpenGL to offer OS X-like windowing tricks, and Kororaa XGL is a Gentoo derivative with a LiveCD that is basically just a demo of XGL. XGL is notable because it's supposed to be featured in the next(?) version of SUSE Linux.
It's ok as eye-candy but doesn't really add many useful features, except for maybe the Exposé-like window switching (which I don't even use on the Mac, anyways). Actually, the wobble effect is really lame. I can't say I really like having my windows wiggle around like they're made of Jell-O. Meh. Worth a few minutes to download the torrent to check out the latest in Linux UI development.
At last! Someone who undetrsands! Thanks for posting!

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

This is a good subject to talk about. Sometimes I fav stuff like this on Redit. This article probably won’t do well with that crowd. I will be sure to submit something else though.

If you're still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you'll know which is right for you.
